Rig Explosion-Much Ado About Nothing

September 02, 2010
No sheen, fire out, workers safe
Despite earlier reports, the U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday afternoon there is no sheen on the water from the Mariner Energy production platform accident .

All 13 workers from the Vermillion 380 production platform located about 80 miles off the Louisiana coast were pulled from the water by supply boat after the blast and fire, which occurred around 9:15 a.m.

The boat transferred the crew members to a nearby platform where they were later airlifted to Terrebonne hospital in Houma. One of the crew members was injured, though his status was unknown.

Firefighting vessels dispatched by Mariner had the blaze out this afternoon.

Automated shutoff equipment on the platform turned off the flow of oil and gas from the platform’s seven producing wells before the fire occurred and the crew evacuated, the company said.

Production platforms do not have blowout preventers like drilling rigs since the nature of producing doesn’t include serious risks of sudden surges in oil or natural gas. Rather they rely on shut-in and safety valves

“The fire occurred away from the well…it wasn’t involved in the area where they had oil producing wells,” said Patrick Cassidy, a spokesman for Mariner on CNBC.

The platform, located in about 340 feet of water, appears to be fairly small, producing about 9.2 million cubic feet of natural gas production per day and 1,400 barrels of oil and condensate as of August, according to the company. It is 100 percent owned and operated by Mariner.

According to Mariner’s annual report Hurricane Ike damaged the structure in 2008, causing the firm to suspend drilling operations that were going on at the time while underwater structural repairs were made.

By-the-By

89% of Americans believe the drilling ban moratorium is politically motivated rather than based on safety issues. More evidence “the thrill is over” with Obama. I’m expecting Impeachment proceedings to be brought before Christmas. Once he is ousted the eligibility lawsuits should get the hearing they deserve. That would be the quickest way to undo much of Obama’s lunacy, to make unpopular bills null and void instead of Supreme Court cases.

Again this is just one more example of a small man, behaving ever smaller.

Have you been noticing how the commucrat candidates, seem to be feeling marooned by Obama. When Obama was riding high, he made them walk the plank or threatened the DNC would be taking names. Today if Obama tried to overplay his hand like that, the Commucrats, that now want to be just known as Democrats again, would tell him to F off.

Steve

Embarassment? The man is destroying America! he is an embarssment! Who gives a crap if he’s embarassed…he should be in prison!..

Amry Col. Denise Lind acting as judge in the Lakin hearing today said… “opening up such evidence could be an “embarrassment” to the president, and it’s up to Congress to call for impeachment of a sitting president.”

IS THIS TRUE?????????….IF SO AMERICANS NEED TO TAKE TO THE STREETS!!!!!!!!!

Commander David LaRocque: Did you know that Colonel Lakin is being housed in the psychiatric ward at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center pending his court-martial?

Friends, Do you still think Barack Hussein Obama is not a Communist? Think again. Listen to this interview with Dr. John Drew, a conservative professor of political science who was a Communist in his…

Why Sept. 26 is crucial to the peace process

Despite the optimistic tone struck over the past few days by U.S., Israeli, and
Palestinian leaders, the latest round of direct negotiations between Israel and
the Palestinians already faces a looming crisis. On Sept. 26, the ten-month
moratorium on settlement activity decreed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
will expire. Netanyahu has stated that he will not renew the moratorium, while
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has asserted that Palestinians will walk out of the talks
unless he does just that.

The Sept. 26 deadline is the legacy of the Obama administration’s early
emphasis on the settlements issue. Washington demanded a freeze to all
settlement activity, including "natural growth," which prompted Abbas to take
up the same demand. Netanyahu steadfastly refused, finally agreeing to a
temporary moratorium to prevent a crisis in U.S.-Israel relations. If history is any guide, it is likely
that, had Washington not chosen to focus so singularly on settlements, they would
have remained a matter of great contention, but not an insuperable obstacle to
negotiations.

Either an extension or the expiration of the moratorium on Sept. 26 has
potentially disastrous consequences for the peace talks. If Netanyahu allows
the freeze to expire, the talks will collapse. If he extends the moratorium,
his coalition may well collapse, resulting in political paralysis in Israel for
at least several months.

[[BREAK]]

As any good diplomat knows, when faced with two bad options, the only thing to
do is come up with more options. The looming crisis over settlements provides
Washington with its first test as mediator, and it has a responsibility to devise
a creative way to provide the parties with an exit from the settlement
conundrum — so that they can focus on negotiations, which in the long run offer
the only hope of a durable solution to the dispute.

One possibility which merits consideration is for the Obama administration to
reaffirm the relevant portions of President Bush’s April 14, 2004, letter to
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. The letter made plain two realities which the
parties themselves have difficulty acknowledging publicly: first, that Israel would likely retain certain
settlement blocs near the Green Line in any peace agreement, and second, that
the future Palestinian state must be "viable" and "contiguous," implying that
Israel would have to quit many settlements whose retention would thwart such an
outcome.

These statements addressed vital concerns on both sides — the Israeli concern
about uprooting the bulk of its settlement population, and the Palestinian
concern that continued settlement activity would eat away at their future state
and leave it as a patchwork of disconnected cantons. Crucially, these
reassurances and subsequent understandings paved the way for a modus vivendi
(albeit a temporary one) on the settlement issue which allowed negotiations to
proceed.

Washington’s reaffirmation the April 14 letter would remove the pressure on
both Netanyahu and Abbas to take stands on Sept. 26 which would lead to the
collapse of peace talks, with all of the negative consequences that would
imply. Essentially, the U.S. would shoulder blame that might otherwise be
directed at the two leaders by their allies and domestic constituencies.

Whether they like it or not, President Obama, Prime Minister Netanyahu, and
President Abbas are now in these peace talks together, and each has an
incentive to bolster the others for the sake of his own political fortunes. Preventing
a crisis on Sept. 26 will be the first test of their willingness and
ability to do so.

Another Tack: From Brooklyn to Park Place

Sarah Honig

A couple of weeks ago Kathy, my fellow alumna of New York’s High School of Music and Art (renamed the LaGuardia High School for the Arts), sent me an update on a column I devoted (some two years back) to our much-belated reunion. The next day roughly the same information appeared in The Jerusalem Post, datelined Miramar, Florida. A quick Google showed it was widely reported.

The gist was that Adnan el-Shukrijumah has apparently become al-Qaida’s new head of global operations, in charge of plotting new attacks. This promotion puts him in direct contact with Osama bin Laden. This is the highest any American ever rose in al-Qaida ranks.
How does this pertain to Kathy? Shukrijumah was her neighbor, but no one would heed her warnings in real time. Indeed, even after Shukrijumah went on the lam, she tried almost desperately to convince me that something bad was happening next door to the house which generations of Kathy’s Irish family had occupied since it was built in 1912.

Eventually, it was passed down to her. She and her husband raised three kids in the same two-story, redbrick dwelling on a leafy, cozy and quiet Brooklyn residential street. Both Kathy and her father grew up there and neither knew any other home. Their story wasn’t unique among the house-proud Irish of that neighborhood, where property tended to stay in the family and where things never changed too radically.

But no more. Not only are Kathy’s sons and daughter no longer nearby, but she describes them as having “escaped.”

Kathy’s birthplace is now a mini-Pakistan/Bangladesh, replete with bearded men sporting all manner of Muslim headgear and long flowing tunics, as well as heavily swathed women, some even veiled.

The corner of Kathy’s block is dominated by an oversized green sign, identifying the low-slung building beneath it as Masjid Nur al-Islam (the Light of Islam Mosque) and announcing that “only Allah is worthy of worship and Muhammad is his LAST prophet.”

Christians are urged to “turn to the Koran” if they are “genuinely faithful to Jesus.”

Like the few remaining non-Muslim homes on the street, Kathy’s is distinguished by a huge American flag that flutters demonstratively in the manicured front yard, accompanied by a large cross on the door and an assortment of patriotic/jingoistic banners. According to Kathy’s apologetics at the time, “making a statement is about all we can do. They aren’t delighted to see our flag wave. This is enemy territory.”

She felt besieged and, to prove she wasn’t paranoid, Kathy began amassing a dossier on the masjid, the imam who ran it and his followers. She insisted they weren’t innocent practitioners of American religious freedom.

She smelled something sinister, yet was painfully aware that she would be branded either unhinged or bigoted.

Her research, however, seems to indicate otherwise.

UNTIL THE mid-1990s, Masjid Nur al-Islam’s imam was the late Egyptian-educated Gulshair el-Shukrijumah, who later relocated to Florida. He was initially dispatched by the Saudis as a Wahhabi missionary in 1985 and financed by them thereafter. His disciple Clement Rodney Hampton- El, an explosives specialist, possibly helped assemble the bomb detonated in the 1993 World Trade Center attack. He was convicted of plotting to blow up the UN, FBI headquarters and the Holland and Lincoln tunnels.

Gulshair acted as interpreter for Omar Abdel-Rahman, the “Blind Sheikh” now serving life for the first WTC bombing, conspiring to use explosives at other NYC landmarks and colluding to assassinate US politicians.

Nabbed mastermind of the 9/11 plot, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, fingered Gulshair’s eldest son, Saudi-born Adnan, as having been designated by al-Qaida and personally vetted by Bin Laden to lead new terror assaults and serve as successor to 9/11 pilot Mohammed Atta, with whom Adnan was connected.

The FBI now deduces that Adnan had taken over Mohammed’s position, designing and approving terror plots as well as screening new recruits. After two other top confederates were killed, the terrorist who grew in Brooklyn became Mohammed’s sole de facto successor.

Adnan received flight training and is dubbed “Jaffar the pilot.” He was likewise linked to “Dirty Bomber” Jose Padilla, Hamas and al-Qaida fund-raiser Adham Hassoun and terrorist Imran Mandhai (convicted of conspiring to bomb the National Guard armory, South Florida electrical substations, Jewish-owned businesses and community centers and Mount Rushmore).

Criminal charges were filed against Adnan. He was named in a federal indictment as conspirator in the plot to bomb New York’s subways in 2009. In the framework of a worldwide manhunt, the FBI offers $5 million for information leading to the capture of Kathy’s ex-neighbor.

Adnan’s brother Nabil, incidentally, uploaded to his Web page an image of Jerusalem ablaze with the caption: “Al Kuds, we are coming.”

None of this serves to persuade our uniformly ultra-liberal chums from yesteryear’s M&A that Kathy’s misgivings were warranted. Former classmates and friends see her as irremediably politically incorrect, on the wrong side of the argument, if not altogether a reprehensible Islamophobe enemy of human rights and of the hallowed ACLU way.

THE FACT that she now vehemently opposes the construction of the Cordoba House mosque/Muslim center, a hop and a skip from Ground Zero, hasn’t added to her popularity.

“It’s very déjà vu, except that the proportions and the gall are enormously more colossal neat the Manhattan landmark. In our case there was no outcry. Nobody paid attention to a no-account commercial property in a forgotten section of middle-class Brooklyn. The high-and-mighty didn’t care that it was overtaken by extreme Islamists.

“Our lives were turned upside down. The newcomers weren’t required to integrate and show sensitivity to the natives. Live-and-let-live didn’t apply to them.

“For years the mosque had been calling the faithful to prayers via rooftop loudspeakers five times daily – including pre-dawn,” Kathy recounts. “When we complained, the authorities regarded us, not them, as the disruptive element.”

Everything was couched in terms of freedom of worship.

Kathy and her neighbors argued that “this isn’t about civil rights. Something was going on there, but no one listened until it was too late.”

For Kathy the projected Muslim complex at 45-51 Park Place is “another installment in the same sad saga – again fraudulently couched in religious-freedom gobbledygook.”

Kathy is leery of the imam behind the Cordoba House plans, Feisal Abdul Rauf, who speaks of a “Shari’a- compliant America.”

After 9/11 Rauf opined that “the United States’ policies were an accessory to the crime that happened… In the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA.”

Pointedly, Rauf refused to describe Hamas as a terrorist organization.

“What message does using the name Cordoba send?” asks Kathy. “The first city conquered by Muslims in Spain conjures visions of Muslim expansionism, triumph and gloating. It’s like turning Constantinople’s Hagia Sophia into a mosque, like constructing mosques on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, like blowing up majestic Buddhist statues in Afghanistan. The issue isn’t our tolerance but their intolerance.”

The Ground Zero Mosque – Lessons from Israel

The Jerusalem Post
September 3, 2010

In its basic form, the Ground Zero mosque debate boils down to a conflict between two competing values – American freedom of religion versus the sensitivities of the families of the victims of 9/11. The freedom-of-religion argument suggests that if Jews sought to build a synagogue at Ground Zero (or anywhere else, for that matter), they would be within their rights. That’s the American way. The opposing view suggests that while not every Catholic was guilty in the Holocaust, and not every Muslim perpetrated the crimes of 9/11, sensitivities still matter. Pope John Paul II had the decency to force the Carmelite nuns out of Auschwitz, and Muslim leaders, too, ought to relocate their project.

Similarly, the mutual accusations are parallel: If you are opposed to the mosque, you are an Islamophobic racist. And if you’re in favor of it, you’re simply insensitive to the pain of those who lost loved ones in the attack.

But we Israelis have learned from our experience that matters are more complicated. One need not be racist or Islamophobic to be concerned about the mosque. For life in our region has taught us that the first necessary step to defending yourself is acknowledging that someone else is out to destroy you.

In the suburban, well-educated, politically and Jewishly liberal America in which I grew up, we didn’t use the label “enemy.” “Enemy” was a dirty word, because it implied the immutability of conflict.

Yes, there were people who fought us, but only because we hadn’t yet arrived at a fair resolution of our conflict. We needed to understand them, so we could then resolve the conflicts that divided us.

I still recall being jarred, when we made aliya, by the matter-of-factness with which Israelis use the word “enemy.” But it wasn’t a judgment or an accusation. It was simply a fact: There are people out to destroy our state, who seek to kill us and our children. And as the intifada later amply demonstrated, they did not yearn for our understanding or our friendship. They wanted our demise.

YEARS AGO, we took our then teenage daughter to an evening sponsored by the army, at which religious parents could ask questions about what the army would be like for their daughters. Some of the parents were downright hostile, clearly opposed to the prospect of their daughters joining the IDF. At one point, an obviously angry father stood up, turned to the base commander and asked (or more accurately hissed), “Do you make the girls work on Shabbat?” The room was perfectly silent, for everyone knew the answer. No one moved. Even the base rabbi said nothing. He stood at the podium, leaned into the mike and, lost in thought, played with his beard.

Suddenly, one of the three soldiers who’d been brought to address the parents, a young woman with her uniform shirt buttoned up to her chin, her sleeves extending to her wrists and her armyissued skirt down to her ankles, looked the father right in the eye, and without being called on, said to him, “Of course we work on Shabbat.” And then, after a second’s pause, she added, “Gam ha’oyev oved beshabbat” – the enemy also works on Shabbat.

It was a game changer. “What?” she essentially asked. “You think we do this for fun? There are people out there trying to destroy us. Either we’re as serious about this conflict as they are, or they’re going to win.”

I hadn’t thought of that young woman in years, but ever since the Cordoba Initiative controversy erupted, I’ve remembered her repeatedly. For Israelis do have something to teach Americans, and it’s very similar to what she said to that father.

It goes something like this: It’s fine to say that “America is not at war with Islam,” to point out that most Muslims are not terrorists and that many American Muslims are moderates. That’s true, as far as it goes.

But it only goes so far. Because America is at war and its enemies are Muslims. Politically correct hairsplitting runs the risk of Americans blinding themselves to that simple but critical fact. It makes no difference what percentage of the world’s Muslims wants to destroy America. There are enough of them that US air travel is now abominably unpleasant and, more importantly, enough of them that more strikes on America appear inevitable.

The US got lucky on Christmas Day when the bomber headed to Detroit failed to detonate his explosives, and was lucky again in Times Square in May, but less fortunate at Fort Hood. Yet those may be but the beginning. We could, heaven forbid, come to see 9/11 as child’s play.

THE UNITED States’ future is under attack, but Americans resist admitting it. President Barack Obama has sent 30,000 additional troops to Afghanistan, but he has also said that he intends to pull them out by July. Can we imagine FDR declaring war on Germany, but then adding that the war had to be over in a year, or in two? It would have been laughable. And America would have lost. The US has to decide – is it committed to destroying those who wish it ill, or is it willing to be destroyed by them? Those, sadly, are its only two alternatives.

When my parents were teenagers, they watched as evil took hold of Europe. But then they saw America turn itself into an unprecedented, enormous military machine. For America’s leaders understood that if the Nazis won, the world as we knew it would be over; we could either destroy Nazism, or have no reason to go on.

But when my children were teenagers, a different evil took root across their eastern horizon. This time, though, the world has feigned impotence.

Iran is at the nuclear threshold. Iraq was at best a “non-failure.” The battle against the Taliban and al-Qaida may take years, or decades, and may require many lives sacrificed if we are to win. But America has grown war-weary. Obama is already planning to bring the troops home; the word “terrorist” is increasingly off-limits in the US because it is considered “politically loaded.”

Americans simply want the conflict to be over.

Its tendency to gentility is part of what has made America great. But an unwillingness to call an “enemy” an enemy could lead to America’s demise. For Islam’s radical leaders tell us clearly what they seek: a world united under Islam, with America’s sacred freedoms eradicated as a new “morality” replaces them. What is much less clear is whether Americans are willing to fight – to die and to kill – to protect those freedoms.

Whether or not the Ground Zero mosque ultimately gets built may not matter nearly as much as whether or not Americans are willing to gird themselves for the battles that sadly lie ahead. We Israelis understand the fatigue that comes with war. We, like Americans, would much prefer a world in which we did not have mortal enemies.

We, like Americans, would much prefer that our children went to college at 18, and not to years of military service. But we’ve learned that anything short of absolute clear-sightedness and honesty – coupled with extraordinary sacrifice – could destroy us.

The same is true for America. The truly important question that the “Islamophobia” accusation raises is not what will transpire with a proposed building, but what will happen with a worldview.

It still remains to be seen if America will do what it must if it is to guarantee the survival of the very values it is now debating. America can remain the “land of the free,” but only if it is also the “home of the brave.”

Thoughts on Our Constitutional Republic

©2010 drkate

If the current government cannot protect the people or the states, then it is our duty to create a government that can.

America in Distress

I am inspired to share with readers the responses to the proposed Constitutional Accountability Project, aka, The Usurpathon activities planned for September 6-9, 2010. Take a deep breath and consider the realities presented here, for they speak the truth.

First,

I am afraid that this will rebound upon us negatively. The time for this type of activity has passed. It will only serve to show the opposition that we are capable of mounting greater numbers, a threat that can be countered. The time for demonstrations and talking is past. ONLY an act involving civil disobediance will now serve us. Force is called for, NOT VIOLENCE OR ARMED REBELLION!!!! Civil disobedience, blocking the State House with Congress inside demanding that these issues be dealt with NOW. Blocking the Supreme Court with the Justices inside until they agree to quit avoiding the eligibility issue. Nothing short of that or some similar action will serve to do anything beyond warn the enemy of our increasing ability and allow them to prepare. NO MORE TALKING>

and here:

You need to get an entire motel or hotel or both and you need to force people to make a commitment and a decision. I think that they might do it if you asked them to commit but if you just leave it up to them you will get a few but not the numbers you need to have to really make an impact on the scum bags in DC. A million give or take a few at the march last year didn’t touch congress at all they just blew the tea party off and they will do it again with your efforts.

People have to come and be committed to stay until congress yells, UNCLE. You could encourage groups to bring their state flags or whatever but people need to be motivated to make the supreme effort. You probably know human nature better than I do. My husband and I are in our mid seventies so we could come and stay around but other people are going to need a loving shove. Just my two cents worth.

This is truth lovingly passed this way, accepted, and the truth asks us to TAKE A STAND.

Remember what has driven us here:

For the first time in its history, the United States government has knowingly allowed a constitutionally- ineligible individual to break into and occupy the White House. All the branches of government have been involved, along with the media: the legislative branch by failing to do its constitutional duty; the judicial branch by thwarting any attempt to have the facts heard; the Executive branch by using taxpayer funds and the color of authority to defend the usurpation.

The media, in collaboration with private unelected officials and elected officials, have ensured a blackout of news and information on this most fundamental matter to the American public. The State governments also obliged the usurpation with a collective failure to ensure the integrity of the 2008 election. In 2008, all Americans were disenfranchised as a result of this dereliction of duty, in certain cases with malice aforethought.

Everything, and I mean everything, is a diversion.

The Call of the Century

“Now is the time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their country”, and now it is. Understand what has happened here. Over the last twenty years, the government has demonized anything that stands for the rights of Americans: Second Amendment, free speech, and privacy. Suspicion is forced upon patriots, in some cases with deadly force. Who gets blamed for domestic terrorism? Why are we scared of the word ‘militia’, our right and a Constitutional Defense Force?

And why? Because if we had a standing militia, were not so tethered to our jobs, guilt-tripped out by political correctness, our youth decimated by war, and were not so ‘calmed down’ by the chemicals in our food and water supply, the left would not have been able to do this.

We must stop Congress and Obama now. The only way to do so is by calling out and acting on the usurpation that has been allowed to happen.

Bear in mind what we may face. How else would you explain the extreme complicity of everyone if it isn’t that there is a threat to the United States if he is removed? Suitcase nukes, anyone? The whisking out of the Russian spies? Or is the infiltration just simply that deep?

This blog asks all other blogs to organize your readers, help us gather 10,000 patriots across the country who will

  • rotate into the Capitol for a rolling revolution, code word, “UNCLE”, until the illegal occupation is stopped. Blog live from the event, inspire other Americans to do the same in their cities and capitols.
  • Keep the issue alive until it is finally resolved

Think of those who do not have a voice anymore. Do you want to remain silent?

“…all the great soldiers, who cannot get older, they’re asking after you…”

As Abbas meets with Netanyahu – PLO Ambassador to Teheran says hopes to see complete eradication of Israel

Dr. Aaron Lerner – IMRA: Salah Zawawi is the official ambassador of the
PLO to Teheran

“With reliance upon Grace of Almighty God and through solidarity of world
Muslims, we hope to witness complete eradication of the fabricated regime in
due course,” Zawawi said.

Zawawi: Relentless struggle will continue to liberate Holy Qods
www.irna.ir/NewsShow.aspx?NID=253385

Tehran, Sept 2, IRNA(Iran news agency) — Palestine’s Ambassador to Tehran
Salah Zawawi said on Thursday that relentless struggle with the Zionist
occupiers will continue until liberation of Holy Qods. Speaking to IRNA, he said Qods international day was initiated by the late
Imam Khomeini.

Late Imam Khomeini put the issue of Palestine on the agenda of Islamic Ummah
which this left an undeniable impact on the resistance of Palestinian nation
to occupation, he said.

‘Late Imam Khomeini expelled the representatives of the Zionist regime from
Iran, cut export of oil to the (then) apartheid regime of South Africa and
established the first-ever Palestine Embassy on ruins of Israeli embassy in
Tehran.’

The ambassador said that the Zionist regime will be annihilated if it fails
to win support of big powers.

He said that the Zionist regime was established by western powers to harm
unity of the Arab nations and the world Muslims to help materialize their
sinister goals.

‘As our struggles with the Zionists will get tougher in the future, we hope
more support from the Islamic Ummah,’ he said.

On Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities, he said the Western countries have
toughen sanctions against Iran but have ignored the Zionist regime which
possesses over 200 warheads and advanced military apparatus such as F-35.

“With reliance upon Grace of Almighty God and through solidarity of world
Muslims, we hope to witness complete eradication of the fabricated regime in
due course,” Zawawi said.
